Parks in Tokyo
"In search of my new hangout"
reported by Teddy Bear Necessity

As soon as I got out of the prison, the search for dog-friendly parks began. It's important for us to be able to access dog-friendly parks so that we can stretch our legs and also gain a new dog network. It's a whole new beginning for us.

Odaiba Park

Odaiba literally means a "fort," and it is a man-made island in the Tokyo Bay that was constructed in the late 19th Century to protect the city from foregin attacks from the sea. It is considered to be a romantic spot nowadays for young couples, but it is also a dogs' hangout especially in early mornings.

"Foreign invaders!" ... watchmen might've cried out if they spotted a boat here about 130 years ago. (This fort was never used in actuality, though.)

It's just a ferry with a bunch of tourists now. No need to have a cow.

Odaiba has a man-made beach that is fun .. but alas if we 4-legged are found romping, they blast the PA system to put us in shame. Off-leash time is difficult to have, agh.

Jonan-jima Park

This park also has a man-made beach and is situated across the river (?) from the Haneda Airport. During the warmer months this area becomes a camp site, but in the winter time it's rather deserted. We came to this park after dropping off my grandma at the airport.

Yoyogi Park

Apparently dogs weren't allowed in this park until about a year ago, but now it's a big hangout for dogs in all sizes. We don't know how long they'll last being dog-friendly since the issues concerning off-leash activities are innately controversial.

If you ask me, the park has a bigger issue with dwellers in the park. There are huge homeless colonies in this park, which gives us a glimpse of societal problems outwardly affluent Japan harbors within. It's a harsh world out there for outsiders in any sense of the word.

In the meantime, it's a great place to come and unwind, and for a terrier to chase crows that are just everywhere. My mom tells me that I'm asking for trouble because they can be really mean, but they are so big that I just cannot ignore them.
The park is spacious enough to play with a ball, but these days I get bored with retrieving easily, so I don't do much of that anymore. I'm content just to be able to romp freely.

"Life can be good if you make it good." That's my motto.

Year of the Rooster
According to the Chinese Zodiacs, this year is the year of the Rooster.

The persons born under the sign of the Rooster (1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005) are said to be diligent and definite about their decisions. Roosters are also not afraid to speak their minds and can therefore sometimes come across as arrogant. They make good entrepreneur and adventurous world travelers.

Do you know anyone who is a Rooster?
(The cute little rooster in the photo was made by Kanako's mother.)
