Airedale Fun Day
We’ve been members of the Airedale Terrier Club of Japan for years since the time we didn’t even dream of moving to Japan. Don’t ask me why. Last Sunday was Airedale Fun Day for the Tokyo Metropolitan area members, so we drove for an hour to meet the Japanese Airedale cult for the first time. We’ve only met a few other Airedales since we moved last December, so it was a treat to meet more Airedales in one place.

The event was held at National Showa Memorial Park in Tachikawa, Tokyo. It’s about 180 hectares in area and it consists of many different areas, such as rolling meadows, cycling roads, flower gardens, game fields for croquet, lawn bowling, and miniature golfing, a lake, and even a dog run.

Unfortunately since it’s already rainy season here, it was really too humid to explore the entire park. Both people and dogs walked from a shade to shade, taking lots of mini-breaks for lunch and cold beer.

This park is famous for seasonal flowers, and this time of the year, it was poppy that was in bloom. Although it had passed its peak, it was still very lovely.

Teddy seemed to have approved the day because her usual aloof surface was betrayed by her bouncy footsteps and sparkly eyes. Was it the expansiveness of the park or was it the meeting with her fellow breed again? The important thing is that Teddy had a good day.
