Bear Necessities of LifeMusings of Teddy Bear Necessity's Household
to Whom It May Concern Dogs Need Friends
2008.07.29 (Tue)
Viaggio the Jack Russell Terrier is our morning friend.
He's very outgoing and also very good at taking care of puppies and dogs that might be a bit unsure about or unfamiliar with playing with other dogs. At first Sakura didn't really know how to play with other dogs very well because she wasn't used to seeing all sorts of different dogs in the dog park setting. Not that she was shy at all by any means. She is actually TOO outgoing to the point of being socially awkward. So Sakura needs sturdy dogs like Jack Russells or Airedales that wouldn't be fazed by Sakura's .. um .. enthusiasm. See what I mean? Viaggio also taught Sakura to do the tug-of-war with a ball. At first she was hesitant, but Viaggio's persistence got her to put her mouth right into another dog's mouth with no quirm or mercy until she wins! An industrial-strength breed like Jack Russells has way with dogs to behave the way dogs should be. :-) Muzzled!

Very dangerous animals being muzzled by yogurt containers! Sex and the City with Bea Arthur

I was talking to my gay friends last night and they told me something I never knew: that the Golden Girls was the it show for gays before the Sex and the City. I never even correlated the two together, but if you think about it, the Golden Girls really was the precursor to the Sex and the City, wasn't it? Four women being empowered by living freely and openly. Even their characters overlap: Dorothy is Carrie, Blanche is Samantha, Rose is Charlotte, and Sophia is Miranda. Darn, why didn't I ever see the link before?
Bon chance, daddy

When a suitcase gets pulled out of the storage, the animals become attentive.
Tobey just doesn't want to miss an opportunity to get into a box but Louie becomes nervous because he must know that a suitcase means his loved one's going away. Well, he is right; daddy's moving to London all by himself! "Mme. Driver, could I please go with him?" Louie asked on the morning of daddy's departure. You have to wait behind with your mommy, little dear. Louie was very sad to see his daddy go because it means no more morning strolls in Arisugawa Park together, no more cafe-ing together, no more going to the beach together, and no more night strolls at Roppongi Hills together. But most of all, it means no more napping together! "Oh no, what's HE gonna do without ME?" I don't know, little dear. But don't worry, we'll see him soon again. The dogs and cats must wait for 6 months in the departing country before entering UK after the required procedures are done and documented. One can argue that it's much better than the 6 months (or even 1 year) long mandatory incarceration that they used to require upon landing, but nonetheless it's still a ridiculous and excessive law particularly coming from rabies free country like Japan. It's a big burden on everyone, but we will endure until we all get reunited again. Good luck, daddy, and we miss you! Airedale vs. Kerry Blue

Were all Airedales this energetic? Am I forgetting? Uh oh. But Sakura can be just as stubborn as an Airedale. She's normally all smiles and wags and isn't really that headstrong. Either this Airedale, Lady, brings out the competitive side of Sakura or this was one heck of a good stick for her to give up. Louie's 3!

Louie turned 3 years old on July 7, 2008.
The birthday cake was a tuna tartar and avocados with raw cabbages on the side, which is an improvement from last year's steak cake or Teddy(RIP)'s deformed meat cake. But I digress. OK, Kerries! Say "cheese!" Kerries had to endure a long photo session, of course. OK, go ahead, make your birthday! We wish you a very happy birthday and many more, Louie. Life of Riley

I say this to anyone who asks or cares to know, but I am an off-leash advocate. I think that dogs are meant to run and I go a great length to provide my dogs the safe enough environment where they can be just dogs.
It wasn't easy to find such places in US and it certainly isn't easy in Japan, but when there is a will, there is a way. We were able to rent a weekend beach house that is located in an ideally secluded and dog-friendly area. We rented this place while we were dog-less, too, just in case we decided to live with another dog again after Teddy's passing ... which we certainly did .. or rather, which certainly happened to us. Here, my Kerries are running down to the beach from the house with our neighbor's Airedale, Lady, leading the pack. Louie and Sakura are usually tame, but they go berserk when there's an energetic dog to play with. Lady, on that note, is really not lady-like at all. Even from the Airedale standard, she ranks high up on the wildness scale. The girls are so acrobatic that Louie the not-so-agile boy can't catch up with them. Look how they fly. Pounce! It's rather therapeutic for the two-leggeds to watch the four-leggeds tiring themselves out. When they get tired of running like mad dogs, their attention shifts to something else. The girls found this drift wood to be worthy of a chew toy. When the fickle girls move on to another game, Louie finally gets onto the drift wood game. My poor little gentle boy is always one step behind those wild girls. That's why he gets played by people a lot. Here, our neighbor's little girl is playing with Louie by putting a little crab on his head! It's all good fun! |
