Bear Necessities of LifeMusings of Teddy Bear Necessity's Household
to Whom It May Concern Crates Blues
2008.08.31 (Sun)
This happened awhile ago, but in preparation for our animals' international traveling, I pulled out the crates from the storage.
Teddy used this Vari Kennel 500 for crossing the Pacific. It was one size up from her normal crate size for extra comfort, but it's just way too big for Kerry Blues, the breed that is one size smaller than Airedales. "You think?" says the big cat. Although somehow our gigantic 18 pounder of a cat looks cozy in it, it IS way too big for all our animals. So I decided to donate this enorma gigantua to a shelter thinking I can just buy one size smaller (400) pretty easily ... well, I was WRONG! Yes, we can find the original Vari Kennels in any sizes easily, but what I didn't count on was the fact that I cannot find the Deluxe Vari Kennels here. What's the difference between the original (left) vs. Deluxe (right)? It's these parts that are different. The original version requires these nuts and bolts whereas the improved Deluxe version has no separate parts to lose. Plus, there is also a handle on top of the Deluxe version, which I like because it makes it easy to carry. Sorry to make such a big deal out of what seems like such a minor problem, but I just hate the prospect of having to buy something so big that I know to be second-best. I contacted a few large pet supply outlets in US, but nobody ships oversea. What to do, what to do. In a time like this it makes me think about how easy shopping is in US. No other country can compete with their abundance of product choices, I don't think. Flower Field

The Kerries are posing on the quilt my mother has been working on for several years. Doesn't it look like Louie and Sakura are in the middle of the flower field?
It's supposed to become a bedspread, but the process is slow because she only works on it when she comes to visit me. Still, when compared to the bedspread I am currently using (what's underneath the work-in-progress), you can tell that it is almost complete. She started to make this patchwork quilt using clothes she used to make for me when I was a child. I don't think, though, this quilt will actually be used as my bedspread because the dogs will destroy it. Perhaps it'll be used in the guest room. This photo shows our Kerries' personality difference very well. Louie the scaredy cat is unsure about being put in the position that is unusual (i.e. being forced to stay somewhere specific) and Sakura the happy-go-lucky girl is just lovin' the attention. Girls rule. Friends

A friend of mine took this cute photo of Sakura and Tobey.
Sakura likes our cats so much so that she is constantly trying to involve herself into their lives. Our cats are dog-savvy and also dog lovers, but sometimes enough is enough and I have to make sure that she backs off from the little ones. Here, Sakura is dying to bother Tobey, but she knows she is supposed to leave the sleeping cat lie. Melting in Heat

It's another 90+ degrees and 60+% humidity weather here in Tokyo.
The length of the tongues out of dogs' mouths is a good indicator of how hot it is. My hometown, Fukuoka, apparently recorded whopping 98 degrees yesterday. Oy... . "It's too hot. Let's go home!" Sakura asked after playing in the park for about an hour (and collecting all sorts of rubbish on her fur). Some days are really too hot to walk on the pavement, so we have to **drive** to the park early in the morning to get a little running in. It is the vicious cycle of managing and contributing to the global warming. |
