Bear Necessities of LifeMusings of Teddy Bear Necessity's Household
to Whom It May Concern Fall Festival
2008.09.14 (Sun)
Hikawa shrine (est. 942 A.D.) that is behind our apartment is having a fall festival.
We can hear the music of Japanese flutes and drums being played all day long from our bedroom (below). During this fall festival, they perform various Shinto ceremonial rituals to drive off evils and impurities and also to "entertain" Japanese pagan gods. One of those rituals is carrying Mikoshi, a portable Shinto shrine, (below) all around the neighborhood. I don't know how long of history this festival has, but considering the fact that this shrine is thought to have been built in 942 A.D., I would imagine it's been going on for a long long time. It's one of the important events in this old neighborhood of Azabu. Wild Animals
2008.09.11 (Thu)
Our animals are fed biologically appropriate food, aka raw food, so their diet includes gnawing on raw meaty bones. It isn't so easy to find good size raw meaty bones in Japan, but the supermarket that happens to be the closest to us just happens to carry a good selection of good quality meats including these very fresh ox tails. "Want it?" But of course. "OK, Louie first." "Yaaaay." "Not fair! I want it too!" Sakura intervenes. "Wait for your turn, little brat!" Louie doesn't get mad at Sakura much. He likes her a lot and he also knows he gets into trouble if he snaps at Sakura no matter how pesky she might be. I have to supervise them while they eat chunky food like this to avoid any kind of accident. It took them good 40 minutes to finish these bones and Zoey kept me company the while time. Wild animals eating their "kill." A wolf under the stuffed animal skin? Well, maybe just a little, but not quite. |
