Presidential Dog
The White House and dogs seem to go together.

President Calvin Coolidge once said, "Any man who does not like dogs and want them about does not deserve to be in the White House."

President Harry Truman once said, "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." (But then subsequently he got rid of his Cocker Spaniel.)

Now the Obamas are talking about getting a dog upon their entry into the White House, and people are interested in what kind of a dog they will choose.

Of famous presidential dogs, there was of course Fala, the beloved Scottish Terrier of Franklin D. Roosevelt.  He and FDR were inseparable and even in death they are celebrated side by side on Roosevelt Island, Washington, DC.

President Warren Harding had an Airedale terrier, Laddie Boy, who had his own hand-carved chair so he could attend Cabinet meetings.

Laddie Boy had some eleborate birthday party in the White House, too.

The President George W. Bush's popularity has been in the downward spiral for some time now, but regardless his Scottish Terrier Barney has a worldwide following and he even has his own extensive homepage on the White House web site. (↓Click the banner.)

Nobody knows what kind of a dog the Obamas are going to choose except that the president-elect does not want a fluffy "girly dog."

Some people think they should adopt a dog from a shelter to be a good role model to bring awareness on the problem of abandoned pets.

Some particular breed fanciers would love to get their beloved breed in the White House while others cringe at the thought for the fear of their breed becoming too popular (and hence overbred and overdumped).

Whatever the outcome, what one dog lover can hope is that people remember what a man's best friend wants is just that: the best friend or even better, BFF (Best Friend Forever).  I can't believe I'm agreeing with Paris Hilton, but it's true.

No, Russell does not work for Citibank.  Just coming out of their ATM in Tokyo.  It's a good thing that he told me he was back in Tokyo, LOL.

Halloween
Happy Halloween!

Every year our animals are the ones that dress up in our household. Last year was Louie's first Halloween and he was Jack O' Lantern.

This year, Louie became an angel

and his counterpart Sakura became the devil.

We went trick-or-treating at two local bars and people got a kick out of seeing these adorable faces. ;-)

An affable devil

and an agreeable angel. Louie did not know this person holding him.

We ended up partying until well-past 1 a.m., and the late night entertaining did the Kerries in the next day.
