The End of the Year
Season's Greetings

The year 2008 was an eventful year that kept us on our toes. We are hoping that the coming year will be a much calmer one.

Right, Zoey?

"All I care is that you give me good food and a warm place to sleep."

Speaking of which, we did find a "flat" in London.

It has a big lovely terrace that overlooks a tennis club, so it'll be a pleasant place particularly in the summer time.

The only thing about the place is that it's a third floor walk-up because the building used to be a single-family mansion. It'll be interesting to lug groceries and waters and suitcases and ... agh.

Anyway,

hope everyone is having good holidays!

For the Love of Our Beasts
The search for a new abode is still ongoing.

The good news is that the rent in London has gone significantly lower than it was only several months ago as the international-scale financial meltdown has contributed to the end of the real estate boom and weakened British pounds.

The bad news is that it is no way near the bottom yet and also that bad economy is no good for anyone.  Also, it's no picnic to find a place when you have 4 pets.  Oh well, that's simply the way we are, the fact of life.  We shall prevail for the love of our little beasts.

The beach fun!  (Front: Louie, Back: Sakura)

Kerries are so frisky (Trotting: Sakura, Flying: Louie)

as well as bratty.  Sakura gets into the face of Rocky the gentle-giant Golden Retriever.  She is taking a toy out of his mouth,

which is a game she has become extremely good at.  She is simply relentless and merciless.  Here, the victim is Olive the Chocolate Lab and Louie is only there for very much *un*needed moral support.

Sakura the rascal.

You are lucky you are so cute.  How do we turn you into a respectable lady?  That is the million-dollar question.

"Like me, you mean?"

Says Zoey, the hobo cat in the cardboard box.  Or just a very modest lady.

Househunting
I am in London right now on a househunting trip. Yes, apparently we are still moving to London afterall.

Because of our pet situation, we are being shown more houses than flats. I had always thought I'd be an apartment dweller, so it feels strange to think of ourselves living in a house. Containing our cats inside at all times will pose a challenge.

These are mews houses, which are former stables with living quarters, built around a paved back street, behind 17- 18th century London mansions.

They are very charming, but they tend to be smaller than regular houses and hence they tend to have some strange layout like you walk right into the dining room through the front door. I don't think I want to live like that.

Speaking of strange, many British homes still have cold and hot water faucets separate. It seems such a throwback to me. Don't they find it inconvenient for washing the face? I just don't get it.

Another very common feature that I don't like although I wouldn't quite call it "strange" is the all-in-one front loading washing machine. This type of washing machine tends to take an extremely long time to do the job, and with drying added on to the time, doing one load of laundry will take forever to accomplish.

We aren't sure what we'll end up finding, but we just hope that it feels home for us to be one happy family again.

*******************************************************************
At any rate, London is in Christmassy mode and the city feels quite festive.

The Christmas decoration near Oxford Circus feels like Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

The Cover Girls
Well, not quite on the "cover," but my beloved Airedales (RIP), Teddy and Woof, made it in the October 2008 issue of Dog World magazine in the breed feature article, "The Airedale Terrier Is Ready for Action."

I don't know who this cover Airedale is, but s/he sure is beautiful.  S/he reminds me of Woof, the glamour girl who I used to call the "supermodel" because she really was one of the most gorgeous Airedales I've ever met.

The girls are in the last photo ↑ : Teddy's the one in the boat.

This photo was taken, ohh I dunno, perhaps good 10 years ago.  This photo has appeared and reappeared mostly in Airedale calendars.  It's nice to see the girls so full of life at the young and restless age although it also makes me a bit sentimental, too.  The time I spent with these girls is just priceless in my heart.

RIP
We walked through Roppongi Hills today

and were very surprised to see

Lehman's sign still there.  It's a tombstone now, I suppose.

Christmas light display is now in full swing at Roppongi Hills.

Looking quite festive.  Hope many people are feeling festive, too.
