Petersham Nurseries

Went to Petersham Nurseries in Richmond, which is about 10 miles away from central London.

This is an interesting complex that is nursery + restaurant + café + antique shop rolled all in one.  All dog friendly to boot, too.

Dogs need reservation at the restaurant, however, so we just used their café.  The restaurant is much more expensive than café anyway.

2 kinds of spanish omelette, chicken salad, and ham and cheese sandwich

with lavender tea.  Yum!  This herb tea is both fragrant and refreshing.  A very unique blend of their own.

The café is very charming, but with its dirt floor and natural covering, you can only go there if the weather is nice.

Their shop has a wide collection of garden related furniture, both antique and new-ish.  Their style is shabby chic, I'd say, but it's a bit more sophisticated than most people can master.  Very beautiful.

All in all, this very English country emporium is a place worth a visit.  You can take a car (not many parking spaces and discouraged), trains, or even a ferry across the River Thames.  Details can be found on their website.

Caught Red-Handed

The crime occurred in the middle of long spell of rainy days.

SAKURA!!  WHAT ARE YOU DOING????

"Hm?"

"Are you talking about this?  I'm just playing with a toy."

IT IS NOT A TOY, AGGHH.

As I was getting excited, Louie the boy in blue (LoL) intervened.

"Please calm down, mommy.  She didn't know she was being bad.  Please forgive her for the sake of keeping peace in this house."

"OK, Sakura, we'll apologize on the count of three.  OK?  One, two,"

"three. WE ARE VERY SORRY."

Well, Louie, hate to tell you, but Sakura is looking away, did you know.

Of course this is all fabrication.

No, not the part that my shoe got eaten, but the part Sakura is remorseless.  As soon as I screamed with horror, she jumped away and started to wag her tail at me from afar nervously but ingratiatingly.

"You are not mad at me, are you, are you?  I didn't do anything bad, honest, I swear!"

Well, it's not convincing with the evidence of your crime sitting right in front of you, bad one.

That Louie came to intervene was real.  Just like their predecessor Teddy "the Scotland Yardale," Louie is the keeper of peace in this household.  If I get really riled up, he'd start barking at me with such an accusatory intensity.

Another keeper of peace in this household intervened, too.

When two gang up on me to protect their little sister, I cannot win, can I?

In defense of Sakura's honor, I should also mention that she normally does not destroy what is not "hers."

She has destroyed countless dog toys (exhibit A) in the past but this was her first pair of shoes ...

yes, "shoeS" in plural form as she got the other half after the recorded incident.  She really did not care for that particular pair, it seems.

Dog Tags
It's been over 5 months since the animals and I started our life in London, but it's only very recently that we got all the new life necessities in order, such as satellite TV, broadband internet, mobile phone, and dog tags.

Sakura came to live with us almost a year ago, but this is her first dog tag because she came to us when we knew we were moving.  She was wearing Louie's tag all this time.

BTW, do you notice that her name  on this tag says "Nikki-Sakura"?  Her real name that is on her original paper is in fact "Sakura," but we initially thought the Japanese name "Sakura" was too cumbersome to pronounce when speaking in English.

As it turns out, however, it was a needless concern.

We got used to calling her "Sakura" in no time, and now the name "Nikki" is mainly only used when strangers (people of chance meeting) inquire her name.

Sakura does respond to either name, though.  On this note, she'd answer to any name, really.  Dogs just know when they are being called.

"It's a mind link.  Dogs are telepathic, didn't you know?"

I'd also say that our bond got that much stronger, little one.

BTW

we buy tags from Boomerang Tags in US.
We like them because they have a wide variety of materials and sizes, are durable, and their engravings are deep.  I also like that they engrave on both sides.

One one side of the tag, this is what I always say just in case they get lost.  Not that I'd think they'd ever find themselves in a jam like that, nevertheless it's better to be safe than sorry.
