Bear Necessities of LifeMusings of Teddy Bear Necessity's Household
to Whom It May Concern Grooming
2009.09.21 (Mon)
When the Kerries get washed, it's time to do a little trimming because the fur must be clean for the scissors.
They need to get trimmed at least once a month (they get washed more than that), or we will have fur monsters that resemble Elmo in our hands. Yes, cute, but if you know soft fur attracts leaves, twigs, and what not on their walks, you won't find it that cute.
Of course, that doesn't change our routine.
"Dirtier the dogs gets, more fun they had," is our mantra (or so it was with an Airedale whose coarse fur was easier to take care of .. but I digress).
The end result is just a matter of management ... on the part of the humans.
Street Trees
2009.09.10 (Thu)
We live in the neighborhood that was developed in the late 19th century. The avenue that runs through the town is lined with Sycamore trees that have grown quite large after 100 years. It is said that sycamore trees can live to 300 or even 500 years of age, but after 100 years, they must get quite beaten up. Recently three of these 100-year old trees have been cut down and I was amazed to see how big they really were. Eventually the tree stumps must get removed, but when it happens, I sure hope that they are going to be replaced with new trees that can grow at least another 100 years. |
