Bear Necessities of LifeMusings of Teddy Bear Necessity's Household
to Whom It May Concern Solution

What's a cat to do when a dog is waiting to pounce on him? Asking a human to remove the dog is the easiest answer. "Sakura, stop bothering the cat!" Born to Run

What I absolutely love about living in England is that dogs can be just that, dogs. Having dogs off-leash is not merely permissible; it is accepted as a way of life in many ways.
As a long-time off-leash advocate in not so understanding atmospheres of US and Japan, I feel that I can finally breathe.
It's given that you need to be responsible about this privilege, but it is nice not having to first put my foot down on the fact that dog owners have rights too as legitimate park users.
I am tired of having to explain to people why conceding to dogs' needs does not mean "putting dogs above humans" but rather "including people who happen to have dogs in their life." Responsible dog ownership means meeting the dogs' needs, and giving them enough exercise is a major part of it.
On this note, I love Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer, on the fact that he always starts by giving his client dogs exercise before attempting to correct any behavioral issues. It emphasizes how important physical stimulation is to a balanced animal ... but I regress, it is another soapbox!
Louie is 6!
2011.07.07 (Thu)
Our prince, Louie, has turned 6!
The birthday boy celebrated the red mark day with meat-fest. After taking numerous shots with the (meat) cake, I realized that I forgot to have the birthday boy wear the birthday hat. No birthday hat, no birthday cake is the rule of birthday celebration (which was hastily made up right then and there), so actual eating had to be postponed until another round of photo shoot was finished. WHHHHHAAAAAAAAT???!!! The Kerries were oh so outraged, however. So much so that they became too jittery and no good photos came out anyway. "Serves you right!" At any rate, happy birthday, little precious! Alien at Home

Sakura doing the aliens.
You know what I mean, right? FYI, she is only yawning. Weekend Ritual

Playing with a ball is a must do activity in the park.
Ready? Set. Go!!! Bring it! You there, that's right, you! (Sakura is not a natural retriever, or is a natural terrier.) Ready? "I'm ready!" OK, OK! This routine is repeated countless times. For the most part, more astute Sakura gets the ball, but Louie makes tremendous efforts, too. "Yaaaay, I got it!" boasts Louie of his rare victory with wide open mouth. Sometimes Louie gets a little assistance, too. The boy can use all the help he can get. Running around and around, sometimes with a stranger dog jumping in. After awhile, wimpy Louie gets tired and stays beside humans, but sprightly Sakura can go on and on and on. Girls rule! Waiting for Godot

Sakura is waiting tirelessly for someone.
Her kitty, Tobey, that is.
The outside-loving inside-cat started to hang out on the terrace again lately now that it is not that cold during the day anymore. Sakura still waits patiently to greet him back. Unfortunately for Tobey, in Sakura's language it is the same as pouncing on the cat.
Graves at V&A

Victoria & Albert Museum is "the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design" (Wikipedia), established at the height of the Industrial Revolution as educational resources to boost productive industry.
The collection is massive, with over 400 objects on display, representing 5000 years of history from all over the world, but did you know that they also house two graves on site? In the corner of the John Madejski Garden, you can find two discreet plaques. On closer inspection, they say, Two dogs of Sir Henry Cole, the first director of the museum, are buried in the garden! Jim (whose breed is unknown) apparently was always seen by his master's side throughout the museum, and so when he died at the age of 15, he was buried there. The second dog, Tycho, also had the same treatment. A little thing like this that shows the Brits' love of dogs just makes me smile. |
